Don’t despair, Repair!

Recently I met with a client who needed a little help fixing one of his dining room chairs. You can see below how the frame was damaged: the back was wobbly and unsupportive which caused the fabric to pucker. My client is an excellent woodworker, but needed an upholsterer to give him access to the frame.

When I opened up the chair (being very careful to not damage the fabric), I discovered it was completely broken on both sides; in fact, the only thing holding the back to the seat was the fabric itself.

My client did an awesome job repairing the frame and making it even stronger than before.

I love collaborating with other makers; I always learn SO much.

Back at my workshop, I carefully replaced the outside back webbing and reattached the padding and fabric.

The last step was to replace the silver nailhead trim . . .
