The Okra Project & Throw Pillow Giveaway

Black Lives Matter. Black Trans Lives Matter. In recognition of our nation’s racial justice uprising, and in honor of Pride month, I want to support and amplify an organization providing essential care to a disproportionately marginalized community.

The Okra Project is an amazing collective that provides food and support to the Black Trans community, by paying Black Trans chefs to create home cooked meals for Black Trans people facing food insecurity. This work - providing comfort, sustenance, and community, is so beautiful and important; I knew right away it was something I wanted to support.

“The Okra Project is a collective that seeks to address the global crisis faced by Black Trans people by bringing home cooked, healthy, and culturally specific meals and resources to Black Trans People wherever we can reach them.

During the Middle Passage, our African ancestors snuck okra onto captive ships to sustain themselves and plant in the new world. Black Diasporic cooking traditions often use the okra plant for its versatility and it is often associated with health, prosperity, and community.

In this spirit, The Okra Project hopes to extend free, delicious, and nutritious meals to Black Trans people experiencing food insecurity.”

Chair Riot has made a donation of $90 to the Okra Project, which is enough to cover one session (groceries and chef’s pay included). Today I want to ask you to join me in supporting this amazing organization. I know a lot of us are facing financial hardships right now; please know that donations in ANY amount qualify you for entry in the drawing (although if you are able, consider $90, which covers an entire meal). I will contact the winners shortly after the drawing to arrange shipment (cost of shipping is on Chair Riot!).

Pinky Swears

Vinyl, meet velvet. These are 16”x16” pillows filled with brand new down alternative forms. The front is custom pieced vinyl and velvet, the back is super durable Crypton in neutral grey.

Soft Spoken

Linen-like Crypton fabric in a soft neutral tone, set off by Schumacher Chiang Mai Dragon piping. These are 18”X18” and filled with brand new down alternative forms. These will look great in almost any space!
